ABOUT ABOUT

Award-winning actress Mara Bayewitz plays Dolley Madison.  She treats the audience to her life story with  humor, warmth, and Dolley's particular view of American history.  Dolley was a woman who experienced the highs and lows of life and persevered through her humor, intelligence, and strength.  Many may know that she saved the oil painting of George Washington as the British were about to burn the White House during the War of 1812.  Few may be aware that she was the first lady for two presidents, or how she influenced Washington society.  For example, she created the Inaugural Ball, she ensured a favorable view of America for foreign dignitaries, and she even set the standards for future First Ladies.  She was also a social activist.  Karen Dugard directs an original script written by herself, Charity Goodman, and Stan Levin. "Dolley Madison - Presidentress" is appropriate for middle school students and older.
